If speeding 20–30 km/h over the limit
Riding 20–30 km/h over the speed limit results in a fine of €150–€300.
If speeding 30–50 km/h over the limit
Riding 30–50 km/h above the limit can lead to fines of €300–€2,180 and possible licence suspension.
If riding without a helmet
Not wearing a certified helmet results in a fine of €35–€50.
If passenger not wearing helmet
Carrying a passenger without a helmet results in a fine of €35–€50 for the rider.
If riding without a valid licence
Operating without the correct motorcycle/moped licence can result in fines up to €2,180.
If riding under alcohol influence (≥0.5‰)
Alcohol levels of 0.5‰ or more lead to fines between €300–€5,900 and licence suspension.
If riding under heavy alcohol influence (≥1.6‰)
High alcohol levels result in maximum fines up to €5,900 and longer suspension periods.
If refusing alcohol or drug test
Refusing to take a test results in immediate licence suspension and fines of €800–€5,900.
If riding an uninsured motorcycle
Operating without valid liability insurance can lead to fines from €500–€5,000 and possible seizure.
If using handheld mobile phone while riding
Using a handheld mobile while riding leads to fines between €50–€100.
If dangerous overtaking
Reckless or dangerous overtaking can result in fines starting from €70–€150 and may increase depending on danger caused.
If riding recklessly in traffic
Aggressive or careless riding can result in fines from €70–€150 or more.
If ignoring red traffic light
Running a red light can lead to fines between €70–€726.
If ignoring stop sign
Failing to stop at a stop sign can result in fines from €70–€150.
If parking in prohibited area
Parking in restricted zones can result in fines between €70–€150.
If blocking pedestrian crossing
Stopping on a crossing can lead to fines from €70–€150.
If riding with faulty lights
Operating with defective lights can result in fines of €35–€50.
If riding with illegal exhaust modification
Modifying exhaust beyond legal limits can lead to fines between €70–€150.
If exceeding noise limits
Exceeding approved noise levels results in fines from €70–€150.
If riding with unsafe tyres
Using tyres below legal tread or in unsafe condition can lead to fines of €100–€5,000.
If riding an unroadworthy motorcycle
Operating with dangerous mechanical faults can result in fines between €100–€5,000 and seizure.
If carrying passenger illegally
Carrying a passenger without proper seat and footrests can result in fines of €35–€50.
If exceeding 9 black points
Reaching 9 points under Austria’s demerit system leads to suspension of riding privileges.
If riding in prohibited lane
Using a lane without permission can result in fines between €70–€150.
If ignoring police stop signal
Not stopping when signalled by police can result in fines from €70–€726.
If riding without functional speedometer
Missing or broken speedometer can lead to fines of €35–€50.
If failing to dim headlights
Not using dipped headlights correctly can result in fines of €35–€50.
If failing to signal when turning
Not using indicators when required can result in fines between €35–€50.
If obstructing emergency vehicle
Blocking or failing to yield to an emergency vehicle can result in fines between €70–€150.
